Our clients new build was on a large section, adjacent to a reserve, with a waterway running the length of one side. Our brief was to design a master plan for the site and a more detailed concept plan for the area immediately surrounding the house.
To take advantage of the beautiful views out to the reserve an angular wrap-around deck was created with a portion cantilevered over the stream batter. A schist retaining wall, to tie in the materials of the house, was placed close to the southern boundary to create a level lawn looking over the reserve area, with a sloped walkway down to the stream. Plenty of planting was included to soften the house and link it to the surrounding landscape.
With part of the adjoining reserve being waterlogged, our clients took on the responsibility of cleaning up this section of the reserve including riparian planting and removing weeping willows.
