r+m became involved at the outset, with the preparation of an overall landscape strategy and landscape evidence for the Plan Change to enable this development.
The Prestons development is being delivered in two pieces by two separate developers. r+m are now working with Ngai Tahu (Prestons North) and CDL Ltd (Prestons Park) as the plan takes form on the ground.
A key feature of the open space through both developments is the linear park, which seamlessly combines the stormwater system, playgrounds, and open space into a central spine extending the length of the development. Streetscape strategies allow for multimodal transport which works in harmony with the stormwater networks and integration of flora and fauna.
r+m prepared the design vision and master plan for the linear park, progressing this through the detailed design phase to implementation, where they provided extensive contract documentation and supervision, involving day to day management of contractors and suppliers on multiple work streams at various stages of completion.
Prestons is one of the largest land development projects ever assembled in Christchurch. The 203 hectare greenfield site is being transformed into an integrated urban village with over 2,600 homes for some 8,000 residents.
