At the outset, r+m was involved in preparing a comprehensive landscape strategy and collating landscape evidence to enable this development to take place.
Two separate developers are delivering the Prestons development in two pieces. Ngai Tahu (Prestons North) and CDL Ltd (Prestons Park) are now working with r+m as the plan starts to take shape.
A key feature of the open space through both developments is the linear park that seamlessly combines the stormwater system, playgrounds, and open space into a central spine extending the development length. Streetscape strategies enable multimodal transport that works in harmony with the networks of stormwater and flora and fauna integration.
r+m prepared the masterplan and design vision for the park. Progressing through to the detailed implementation phase, where extensive contract documentation and supervision were provided, involving day-to-day management of contractors and suppliers, and multiple work streams at different completion stages.
Prestons is one of Christchurch's biggest land development projects ever assembled. The greenfield site of 203 hectares is being transformed into an integrated urban village for some 8,000 residents with more than 2,600 homes.
