Re: START Mall represents the post-quake transitional landscape of Christchurch and was a catalyst in the reconstruction of the city centre.
At the 2015 Landscape Architecture Awards, the project won the Resene NZILA Pride of Place Community Design Award.
In order to create a temporary public landscape within the newly built container mall, r+m provided its services. Their landscape design has been inspired by the container shops structural framework. The plant palette was influenced by donations, including, for instant colour, a mix of annuals and textured contrast mass planting of native grasses and shrubs. Trees were used as focal points in mobile planters.
Envisaged as a temporary installation, it remains, albeit further down the street, five years later!
