r+m's design carefully balances the functional requirements of a supermarket with pre-existing ecological values of the Southbrook stream which meanders through.
The Southbrook Pak'n Save project presented r+m a futher opportunity to colloborate with Foodstuffs South Island Ltd, to balance a multitude of site requirements in acheiving a well articulated landscape outcome.
Extensive use of indigenous vegetation across the site, in combination with walkways, cantilevered decks and seating within the stream corridor enable public enjoyment and sets new standards for supermarket development.
At the heart of r+m's design response was the realignment of the Southbrook stream and, in collaboration with ecologist Mark Taylor, ensured the aquatic values of the stream were retained.
